2025 began uncertain with the departure (and return) of the SVCC President, but the community stepped forward to create new opportunities for chess in the region. In 2025:
- We witnessed a very successful launch of The Pawn Project in Purcellville!
- We partnered with Reaching Out Now in Front Royal, opening possibilities for a permanent USCF club site and future tournaments.
- We held two successful regional tournaments – the Annual Scholastic at Bowman Library and the SVCC 2025 Fall Open.
- We hosted dozens of local meetings and gatherings in Stephens City and Winchester and supported the growing Box Office Brewery Club in Strasburg.
A special thank you is due to our Board of Directors – Rene, Sam, and Brad. They kept the momentum going and growing with enthusiasm, partnerships, mentorship, and ideas.
In 2026, we are very excited about The Pawn Project which has taken off thanks to Amy and Truett. They infused new energy for scholastic chess. Their leadership model and engagement have elevated us all.
Finally, we are very happy to welcome Janis to the SVCC Team. Janis is an avid player who is enthusiastic about supporting and helping with Bowman meetings and club efforts.
